Parkinson’s Disease is a slowly progressing condition that while currently incurable, is treatable.
Parkinson’s Disease is a slowly progressing condition that while currently incurable, is treatable. With input from the client, family, and medical team, we build a custom care plan focused around the specific and changing needs of the individual. Parkinson’s progresses at a different rate for each individual and the intensity of symptoms varies just as much. Commonly observed symptoms include changes in cognitive status, bowel and bladder functions, sleep patterns, and many experience hallucinations or delusions. Our caregivers are well versed and trained in recognizing and managing these changes so the client can refocus on what they are able to control.
Safety and mobility are of utmost concern for those with Parkinson’s, which is why our caregivers are extensively trained in the use of various adaptive equipment as well as techniques for the prevention and reduction of falls. Having a trained caregiver in the home often reduces the frequency or need for hospital visits by implementing daily interventions that provide support and oversight of those tasks shown to be more difficult for those with Parkinson’s.
As always, Gentle Shepherd is focused on enriching the well-being of the whole home; extending beyond the client, to deliver respite, relief, resources, and education to the family and support team.
