COPD/Respiratory Care in Colorado Springs
Our focus is on enriching the well-being of the whole home.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD, is a term used to describe several chronic lung diseases, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema, and affects an estimated 30 million Americans. COPD often presents as extreme fatigue and breathlessness and makes completing even the simplest tasks an exhausting experience. The Gentle Shepherd care team can assist with energy conservation for the client, not only by assisting with activities of daily living, but with managing supplemental oxygen, CPAP and Bi-PAP machines, and monitoring oxygen saturations to ensure the client is receiving the additional oxygen their bodies require. Our Respiratory Care certified care staff are versed in the warning signs of respiratory exacerbation and can identify an episode of respiratory distress requiring emergency medical intervention.
Care needs for those affected by COPD and other respiratory disorders focuses on maintaining a healthy environment and optimizing the health of the body itself. Clients with impaired respiratory systems are at an increased risk for infection, so maintaining a clean and sanitary home is important for our care staff. We support the health of our clients from the inside out by planning and preparing meals that are rich in fiber and plant-based ingredients that have been shown to improve lung health.
As always, Gentle Shepherd is focused on enriching the well-being of the whole home; extending beyond the client, to deliver respite, relief, resources, and education to the family and support team.
