Holiday Gift Guide for Seniors

It can sometimes be difficult to find gift ideas for seniors.  You can still be thoughtful about your gifts for you senior loved ones and give something they will like. Here are some great ideas to show how you care for your seniors at home.

Senior Gift Idea #1: Extra-large alarm clock

You could purchase an extra-large alarm clock with a high-resolution face that is clearly readable with its large letters and numbers. Even a senior with poor eyesight will be able to make out the time and date on this alarm clock.  You could also pre-set multiple alarms on the clock to help remind your loved one of certain events or tasks throughout the day.

Senior Gift Idea #2: Neck massager

How about a neck massager which is a compact pillow that fits perfectly behind the neck and back? It has powerful, deep-kneading shiatsu massage nodes which alter their direction every 60 seconds, to avoid burnout in one area. Your senior loved one can relieve all those tight or tense muscles and revel in the soothing heat function that alleviates muscle soreness and brings a sense of calm.

Senior Gift Idea #3: Window birdfeeder

This convenient birdfeeder is made from a strong acrylic material your loved one can see through and enjoy watching the activities of every bird who visits. If your senior enjoys birdwatching, they can find a seat in their favorite chair opposite the window, and enjoy all the activities that happen throughout the day.

Senior Gift Idea #4: Electric blanket

Your senior will love covering up with a warm, electric blanket. The newest electric blankets provide even heat distribution that will make your loved one feel totally warm and comfortable. This blanket can be used anywhere, whether lying down or seated.  If your loved one has an electric blanket already, check to see how old it is.  Older electric blankets can be a fire hazard, so it just may be time for a new one!

Senior Gift Idea #5: Large print playing cards

If your senior loved one enjoys playing pinochle, canasta, or even solitaire, these large print playing cards will make an ideal gift. Anyone who has difficulty making out the small symbols on typical sized playing cards will love these large print cards, which are highly visible and easy to read. If your family member stopped playing cards because they couldn’t see them anymore, these playing cards will get them back into the fray, and enjoying one of their favorite activities.

More Senior Gift Ideas: Ask your Caregiver

Your Gentle Shepherd caregiver may also be a great source for gift ideas.  Ask your caregiver what activities they do with your senior loved one, favorite meals or snacks or a need or want your senior has shared with them. Our in home caregivers in Colorado Springs spend many hours with each senior and are in tune with each individual’s needs and wants.
